The BackStoppers

A famous quote by Mr. Rogers says this: When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

Stray Rescue of St. Louis

In July, we shared about a wonderful organization, Stray Rescue of St. Louis. This no-kill organization officially began in 1998, with the mission to rescue stray animals in need of medical attention, restore them to health, and place them in loving adoptive homes. Most of these animals have been abused and neglected, some chained near the buildings their owners left behind.

National Kidney Foundation

When people think about their health, they often don’t think about their kidneys. However, kidneys serve vital functions, such as filtering blood, helping to make red blood cells and control blood pressure, and keeping the proper amounts of fluid in the body. One in three U.S. adults are at risk for kidney disease, which usually has no early symptoms but can lead to serious complications once it progresses.

The BackStoppers

Every day, public servants make a tremendous sacrifice, putting their lives on the line when they go to work. There is the acceptance that tragedy could occur, and that one of those who protect us could give his or her life.  When such tragedy occurs, there is a heavy burden placed on surviving spouses and children.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

The family of a child with a serious illness should not also have to worry about money, basic needs, or remaining near that child during that time. Since 1974, one organization has been working to keep families and their sick children together.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis

Rafael is a happy 2-year-old beagle, who was found scrounging for food in a St. Louis dumpster. He now lives with a foster family, awaiting adoption to a home that includes love, another active dog to befriend, fenced-in yard, toys, and maybe children.

St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Each day in Missouri, there are 187 reports and 18 confirmed cases of child abuse. Nationally, a staggering number of 129 children are abused each hour, with over $63,000 per minute spent on direct care costs of abused children. Even more shocking is the fact that studies estimate actual abuse cases could be up to three times higher, due to a lack of reporting. The emotional, physical, and financial costs last a lifetime for these children.

The American Cancer Society

Becky GibbsThe American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. This organization has been working for over 100 years, to create a world free of cancer. In the meantime, over one million people are newly diagnosed with cancer each year, and the ACS serves these people and their families.

Shower of Love

Many families with babies and young children struggle to provide for their numerous needs. The monthly cost of disposable diapers alone adds up to $100 per baby, and there is no government program to assist with this cost. Infants and toddlers need their diapers changed often or else they are at risk for severe rash, infection, and developmental issues.

4 Paws 4 Rescue

According to the Humane Society, between 6 and 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters each year. Nearly 3 million of these animals are euthanized annually, eighty percent of which were healthy and adoptable. Fortunately, there are individuals and organizations committed to saving as many of these animals as possible.
