According to the CDC, one out of every four deaths in the United States is due to heart disease. Approximately 610,000 people die from heart disease each year, making it the leading cause of death for both men and women.

For Mary Mercer, heart disease is more than a set of statistics; it is a daily reality. The condition is prevalent on both sides of the family, and has affected her parents and grandparents. Her father passed away suddenly at the age of 56, when Mary was 20 years old. She has been dedicated to controlling her own high cholesterol, which was diagnosed a few years ago, with diet, exercise and a commitment to annual checkups.

She shares that she believes that the work of the American Heart Association is vital. The tragedy that struck her family alerted her to the need to monitor her own health from a young age. She turned to the AHA to become greater informed and educated about heart disease and its risk factors, knowing that what she has come to learn will help to prevent future tragedies.

For this reason, Mary chose the AHA as the charity organization to receive a donation in honor of her being named Employee of the Month. Mary has worked in the mortgage business for 19 years and has been in processing for 14 of those years. She has worked as a Loan Processor at Paramount Bank’s Florida office since December of 2016. She enjoys working for Paramount “because it feels like we are one big family.” From what she has experienced, PMC is a company that is nice and welcoming, willing to answer questions and check in one another. She states, “I have never worked for a company where you actually got to interact with the President and Executive Vice President in a way that makes you feel as you are all on the same level. I appreciate being able to take file issues to them for help, and even have some underwritten. “That,” she says, “definitely sets Paramount apart from any employer I have EVER worked for!”

We are grateful to have Mary as a part of our family and our team. Thank you, Mary, for all that you do to serve our customers and your teammates. We are honored to make a donation to the American Heart Association in your name.
